Jim Gilmore: Bill Clinton's Sordid Past Is "Fair Game"

Former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore, who is running for president, said attacks on former President Bill Clinton's past martial indiscretions are fair game if he is campaigning for Hillary.

"Well of course, if she brings him onto the campaign trail, then at that point as the former president he becomes an issue in the campaign to be sure," Gilmore said on NewsMaxTV's Steve Malzberg Show Tuesday evening.

Republican front-runner Donald Trump and former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina this week also said Clinton's past discretions were "fair game" in the campaign.

"Don't forget, that when he ran for president Hillary said, 'vote for both of us, you'll get two for one,' and boy we did," added Gilmore. "And now I think that they're getting ready to play that over again. I don't think the people of the United States are going back to that past situation. I think they want to move forward.."

Gilmore, who often registers with no support or one percent in most national polls, insists he is in the campaign for the long haul.

'Tis The Season For Online Dating

If you've been sitting on your parents’ couch this holiday season glumly contemplating failed relationships past and your inevitable partnerless future, do not despair. There is hope for you yet. Because when the clock strikes midnight Thursday, not only will you be making out with some random stranger, you’ll be entering the hottest month of the year for online daters.

That's right: January sees far more matches and dating-related messages than any other month, according to data from dating apps Coffee Meets Bagel and Hinge. So hit pause on Netflix, take a shower maybe, and get ready to meet the person of your dreams via a match notification pushed to your phone's homescreen.

"Without fail, January is our biggest month each year," Karen Fein, VP of marketing at the dating app Hinge, told BuzzFeed News. Same goes for dating app Coffee Meets Bagel, which saw a 44% growth in matches last January over the previous month, and a 56% bump in messages exchanged on its platform.

The uptick may be due to an unscientific phenomenon called cuffing season, during which people look to form relationships to get them through the colder months.

"We think there is an uptick in matching and messaging post-Christmas because people are seeking a flame to warm the winter/post-Holiday chill," Coffee Meets Bagel spokesperson Liina Potter explained. "You could say 'cuffing season' is in full effect. In the New Year, people also seek the seed to create new beginnings, which includes new relationships."

If you mess up in January, you should still be OK. The next two months or so are still prime time for online dating, according to Hinge's Fein. "Men on Hinge are 15% more likely to want a relationship in the winter than they are in other seasons," she said. "Women are 5% more likely."

If all else fails, pray for snow. According to Fein, snowstorms also tend to cause big increases in activity on Hinge.

Facebook's Free Basics Shuts Down In Egypt, Continuing Troubled Run

Facebook's Free Basics program, which provides free internet access to a select group of apps and websites, has been shut down in Egypt, according to an Associated Press report.

In a statement provided to the AP, Facebook said it hoped to ""resolve this situation soon."

"We're disappointed that Free Basics will no longer be available in Egypt," the statement said. "More than 1 million people who were previously unconnected had been using the Internet because of these efforts."

It's still unclear why the service was halted in Egypt, but the shutdown marks another setback for the program, which has been the subject of a regulatory battle in India. Detractors there have derided the initiative for favoring some apps and sources of information over others, something they say goes against the principles of Net Neutrality. Free Basics is still live in over 30 countries.

Facebook — and social media in general — played a prominent role in Egypt's Tahrir Square uprising in 2011. The platform was a key organizing tool for demonstrators who eventually overthrew the government. There have since been several attempts to block it.

Mike Huckabee says President Barack Obama's victory in Iowa during the 2008 Democratic primary showed, against most people's doubts, that someone with the middle name Hussein could be president.

Asked on Kevin McCullough Radio this week what role Iowa plays in choosing the next president, the former Arkansas governor said, "It plays a huge role, Barack Obama would never have been president had he not upset Hillary Clinton back in 2008."

"The upset of Obama in Iowa made him a viable candidate when most people thought that a guy with the middle name Hussein would certainly not be a viable candidate for president and it was just a remarkable turn," Huckabee continued said.

Huckabee noted candidates like Howard Dean lost in Iowa after leading the polls, and added that pundits were wrong to cite polls and "don't get out much."

"It hardly is gonna reflect vote totals, especially in early states," said Huckabee of polls.

The former Arkansas governor won the Iowa Caucuses in 2008, but has remained near bottom of the pack in the polls during this election cycle.

New York Knicks Player Shot In The Knee During Robbery

A New York Knicks player was shot in the knee Wednesday morning after three cars surrounded him after leaving a strip club, officials said.

BuzzFeed News confirmed with the Knicks that Cleanthony Early, 24, was one of the victims in the incident, which took place shortly after 4 a.m. in Queens, New York.

"We are aware of what occurred with Cleanthony Early this morning and are relieved that he is not in a life-threatening situation," a New York Knicks spokesperson told BuzzFeed News.

According to the NYPD, who did not specifically identity Early, officers were called to the scene around 4:18 a.m. Two individuals, a male and a female, had left CityScapes Gentlemen's Club in Queens and got into an Uber.

Minutes later, three vehicles surrounded the Uber and assailants burst inside, robbing the passengers of jewelry and an unknown amount of cash. In the midst of the scuffle, the male was shot in the right knee.

He was rushed to Elmont Hospital and is in stable condition, the NYPD said.

The police department did not comment on whether or not the male was targeted incident.

Early, a 24-year-old Bronx native, was drafted to the team in 2014. He is a small forward, and an alumna of Wichita State.
